THE INTIMACY WITH GOD

THE INTIMACY WITH GOD

In the Name of God, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.

The Prophet (saw) said, ‘When a man comes out of the humiliation of disobedience to the dignity of obedience, God will grant him intimacy without need for a close friend and elevate him without wealth.’ [Bihar Al-Anwar, v. 75, p. 359, no. 74]

الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : مَنِ انْفَردَ عنِ النّاسِ أنِسَ باللّه‏ِ سبحانَهُ.

Imam Ali (as) said, ‘A man who isolates himself away from people will find intimacy with God, glory be to Him.’ [Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 8644]

If you come close to God, you will come close to an independence of strength and patience. A man who is close to God will never have to have close friends or other intimate relationships in order to feel good.

Never run after people you know will avoid you, let you down or leave you alone. You have God who will never avoid you, let you down or leave you alone in the dark. People today rely too much on other people they know will betray them and leave them alone. Only rely on God. What God is planning for you is the best of plans. Be content and accept every decision of God.

Sometimes we need to live in a Khalwa (seclusion) to get closer to God. When you live in a society full of materialistic people, you sometimes just want to go away to a place where you are alone with your Lord. Society has been infiltrated with materialism and with greed. The majority think of themselves. Everyone is competing with the other as if they are enemies even if they were the closest childhood friends you have witnessed. The human value today has become cheap. God will always know your worth and God will always exalt you when others are trying to degrade you.

Get closer to the creator who created you. God understands you the most. It is God who created you and designed you. God is closest to you. That is why you should turn to God. When you are alone with God, you realize that you begin to understand reality more and more. Things become clearer and you get closer to a clearer understanding of the purpose of life. The purpose of living is to draw closer to God, the source of all goodness.

Imam As-Sadiq (a.s.) said, ‘God makes the faith of every single believer his own [source of] intimacy, so that he will never feel lonely even if he were to be on the top of a mountain.’ [Bihar al-Anwar, v. 70, p. 111, no. 14]

If you remember God and have God’s beautiful names in your heart, you will never feel alone even if you were in a mountain all alone. Those who have filled their hearts with materialism and temporary things will always feel lonely when the enjoyment and joy of these things ends. The sweetness of being close to God will never end. The feeling of happiness never ends when one’s heart is close to the Almighty. You will never ever be alone.

In this life, you will be a stranger among people when you are close to God. The time is approaching Imam Al-Mahdi’s (ajf) arrival and the believers will be treated like strangers. Islam today is just a name among the tongues of Muslims who only utter Islam while their hearts do not want to absorb the sweetness of the faith (Al-Iman). You will be alone among people, whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims. The time is near, and the believers are living in a difficult time. Never lose hope, because the Imam (ajf) is near and things will be put in place and the reality will be clearer than the sun.

الإمامُ العسكريُّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : مَن أنِسَ باللّه‏ِ اسْتَوحَشَ مِن النّاسِ .

Imam Al-’Askari (as) said, ‘A man who finds intimacy with God feels lonely among people.’ [al-Durrah al-Bahirah, p. 43]

Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Holy Progeny (as)
