THE STRUGGLE OF HONOUR AND DIGNITY
In the Name of God, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.
Imam Ali (as) said, ‘Fight in the way of God with your hands; and if you are not able to do so then fight with your tongues; and if you are still not able to then fight with your hearts.’ [Bihar Al-Anwar, v. 100, p. 49, no. 23]
Today, many have chosen to live a life of humiliation. Most people have chosen to live a life of humiliation in every aspect that one can count. You are no longer willing to defend yourself against what damages your honour and dignity. Man is let down by the power of evil.
Islam is a religion that gives you the right to always defend yourself against evil forces that come from outside. Islam is a religion of struggle, where you fight against evil. You should always be in a stage of struggle against what is the opposite of good. Many Muslims today have abandoned the beauty of struggle and self-defence. Most Muslim countries have surrendered themselves to the arrogant powers. They have allowed themselves to be exploited.
I am proud and I get a whirl of happiness when I see groups and people, such as the Yemeni people, who are fighting against the richest country in the world, namely Saudi Arabia, while the Yemeni people are the poorest country on the face of the earth. The Yemeni people are a people who refuse to be humiliated and the Yemeni people have truly preserved their honour and dignity in a very unique way, where they are ready to give every drop of blood to protect their Islamic identity, and this is the definition of Jihad. Jihad is not to go around and kill innocent people. Look at the Yemeni people, and there you have a true Jihad waged against the arrogant and evil forces who have followed and obeyed Satan’s instructions.
If you can’t be there for Yemen and the Yemeni people to defend the oppressed against the arrogant forces, then be there with your tongue and speak out against injustice and oppression. Jihad does not always have to be that you defend yourself with your hands. When you do not need or when you can’t defend yourself with your hands, then you use your tongue. The tongue has a great influence and power and the tongue can really change a whole mentality. The tongue should always be there and work for what is good against evil. This is also a type of struggle that should be noticed.
If you can’t use your tongue, then you should use your heart. The heart should always associate itself with goodness against evil. If your mentality is not associated with what is good, then you must change it. You cannot be in a state where you allow yourself to be characterized by evil thoughts that can lead to bad actions. Bad actions start with bad intentions and bad thoughts and then radiate into bad actions. That’s why you always must have the heart as a basis of a good cultivation. The actions are the fruits of what you plant in your heart and soul. Let your intentions, feelings and thoughts be pure so that it will be easier for you to perform the purest of deeds.
One must always fight in every aspect of life.
Imam Ali (as) said, ‘Certainly jihad is the noblest of deeds after [acceptance of] Islam, and it is the pillar of religion. The reward for it is great, while at the same time, consistently maintaining one’s honour and strength. There are rewards and good tidings of Paradise after martyrdom.’ [Nur al-Thaqalayn, v. 1, p. 408, no. 429]
الإمامُ عليٌّ (عَلَيهِ الّسَلامُ) : اللّهَ اللّهَ في الجِهادِ بأمْوالِكُم وأنْفُسِكُم وألْسِنَتِكُم في سبيلِ اللّهِ
Imam Ali (as) said, ‘By God! By God! Wage jihad with your wealth, yourselves and your tongues for the sake of God.’ [Nahjul Balaghah, Letter 47]
As we see, the concept of Jihad is clear when we read through the Islamic texts. One must always fight in every aspect of life. The evil forces will always exist, but if you have God, you will always win.
We live in strange times. I agree with you. We live in times where you as a Muslim or revert feel like a stranger. It is a huge struggle. In all these moments of trials and tribulations, it is very important to have a positive mentality. No matter how hard you live, there will always be light for those who want the light. What God will give you after all these moments of trials is something you and I cannot imagine.
You may see many Muslims today who work, get tired, go out on weekends and enjoy etc, but how many of these Muslims are willing to really do anything for their religion in connection with what they do during their everyday lives?
There is no benefit to working without achieving a qualitative result. You should not work to a level where you become the slave of society and the system. This system we are living in right now is built on enslaving good human beings. Slowly but surely, the system wants to oppress those who really want to do good, and the evil ones will profit from this system. This system we are living in right now is designed for those who want to hurt and exploit the world we are living in.
That is why you should fight against all the arrogant and evil forces of this world. Many people say they want to live in a better world, but I promise you, those who really want to live in a better world are a very small majority. Otherwise, why should Imam Mahdi (ajf) have that small number of supporters?
What is the purpose of these words
The purpose of these words is that you should always be there and defend the truth, the life, the goodness and all the beautiful that evil is trying to destroy. You should always defend your honour and dignity, even if the whole society goes in a direction where they trample on their own honour and dignity. You should be of those few who truly defend what will last forever. Be strong and be one of the smallest minorities. Society and the majority have already adopted a position of humiliation and dishonour.
God has given man the right to defend his glory. If something hurts you, then you must defend yourself, your soul, your heart, your honour, dignity, wealth, health, etc. Never let evil affect you in any aspect. Always be strong. Be a strong believer in God. If Society wants to continue to live in disgrace and dishonour, then you should be the opposite of disgrace and dishonour. Defend yourself against evil. Always remember that God is with you and God will elevate your rank.
God loves the servant who defends goodness, especially in a world where evil has been beautified and where people have chosen to look at the surface of the beautified falsehood and follow it. Be strong and never let evil win over you. God is with you and you are always strong when God is with you!
Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Holy Progeny (as)
