In the Name of God, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.

Imam Ali (as) said :

‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ طُوبَى لِمَنْ شَغَلَهُ عَيْبُهُ عَنْ عُيُوبِ النَّاس

O People! Blessed be the one whose own fault preoccupies him from finding faults in others.

[Nahj al-Balagha, pg. 255]

Today, we live in a world where it is pleasing to speak about other’s mistakes, imperfections and faults, rather than to focus on your own flaws. When you begin to focus on your own flaws, you begin to realise that every single human being has his own struggles which he struggles with.

It’s a sign of arrogance and pride, when a human being begins to focus on other’s mistakes and faults, and it’s a sign of humbleness and humility when a human being begins to focus on his own imperfections which he has to perfect and hone in order to travel to the world of human perfection even though we as ordinary human beings aren’t perfect nor infallible at all.

How is it possible for you to develop as a human being when you are focusing on other paths which are different from yours?

How can you perfect your imperfections when you are focusing on other’s imperfections?

Rather, we as human beings should help each other to perfect our mistakes, imperfections, faults and flaws. This is the way to build up a better society, world and a brighter future for humanity. Humanity is tired of the pointing fingers. The blessing lies in the heart that tries to hone and perfect its imperfections, because the heart can sometimes be filled with imperfections such as envy, anger, pride, arrogance, greed and ungratefulness, and by focusing on other’s mistakes, these negative traits will only increase.

By focusing on your own flaws, you begin to cultivate the seeds of humility, humbleness, wisdom and strength. The second step is to help other’s with their own imperfections, problems, struggles and hardships, and this is the true way of harmony and positive development which we need in order to get closer to God and to the world of goodness and purity!

Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Progeny (as)

In the Name of God, The Most Beneficent, The Most Merciful.

Prophet Mohammad (saw)‏ said :

أَدْنَي الْكُفْرِ أَنْ يَسْمَعَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْكَلِمَةَ، فَيَحْفَظَهَا عَلَيْهِ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَفْضَحَهُ بِهَا أُولَئِكَ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُمْ

The most basic level of infidelity is for a man to hear a fellow brother say something and memorize it for future use against him in order to shame him with it. Those are indeed worthless people [in the hereafter].

[Bihar Al-Anwar, vol. 74, pg. 195]

Why do people memorize information in order to spread corruption?

There are many reasons of why people are ready to memorize information in order to spread it to the masses. The Prophet (saw) of Islam has made it clear that if an individual has the intentions to memorize and listen in order to spread corruption, then that individual is a worthless human being in this world and in the hereafter.

Envy is indeed one of the reason why someone is ready to memorize something or collect information in order to use it against someone one day. This is of course a habit many in our community and outside our community have embraced and Islam is indeed a religion that speaks out against these actions which are related to backbiting and espionage. On the other hand, Islam also came to explain the reasons behind every single ruling God commanded us to follow and abide by.

So, backbiting and memorizing information in order to spread corruption and rumours in the society is forbidden because it has detrimental consequences which will destroy the essence of social ethics in the society and the world we live in. Imagine a society where everyone would bear the feelings and the emotions of animosity, hatred and rancour against each other. A society which has this evil habit will eventually become a society of insecurity and fear.

The second reason is without a doubt hatred and anger which an individual carries against his fellow human being. Racism is also a factor which is related to hatred and rancour. Racism is a widespread problem in our society.

I remember an incident which happened to a Shaykh in my city Malmo, where a racist individual interviewed him and asked about his opinion on apostasy. The intentions of the interviewer were not the intentions of goodness and good-will. The interviewer did not interview the Shaykh in order to learn something new about opinions of the schools of thought in Islam or the different opinions which exist among Muslims.

The Racist interviewer interviewed the Shaykh in order to extract an opinion which he would later on use against the Shaykh and change the whole purpose of his interview which he displayed to the Shaykh from beginning of the interview. So the Racist interviewer took the points which would benefit his own agenda against the religion of Islam. He literally wrote a whole debate article about the interview he had with the Shaykh.

From this scenario, we know that the intentions of this racist were to memorize and write down certain sentiments of the interview in order to portray a negative image of the religion of Islam. The interviewer must bear in mind, that the religion of Islam has many schools of thought and even the followers of the different schools of thought in Islam have their own opinions which may differ from the other followers of the same Islamic school of thought which he follows.

It is very important for each and every single seeker of knowledge within the religion of Islam to not share deep information to superficial laymen who are not even willing to understand the essence and the true and deep teachings of Islam and the philosophy behind every single Islamic ruling.

The third reason may be amusement and entertainment. Many people in the society today have the tendency to just begin a conversation full of negative rumours in order to feel the poisonous social intoxication of amusement (لهو). That’s why it is very important to become a Muslim of consciousness and awareness (وعي). Many people don’t realize the danger of tediousness and boredom which can cause an individual to backbite or extract a portion of negative information in order to destroy the society he or she lives in.

A Muslim should always be active and never lazy, because laziness is arguably one of the most serious spiritual illnesses. Tediousness will lead to a life of pessimism. When life has no meaning other than the materialistic aspect, man will automatically depreciate the human being and the value of the human being.

When you are active, you automatically become optimistic. You start to think well about the society and your fellow human beings. This will also lead to the actions of optimism as one always wants the best for humanity.

We, as Muslims, must never think in a way in which we blame everything on our fellow human beings and take it as an excuse to speak ill of them later on in the future. No, instead we should help each other to become better human beings by starting with our own thoughts first and foremost. When the thoughts are optimistic it will automatically lead you to the destination of goodness when you as a human being begin to appreciate the value of the human being. Let us all reflect on these thought structures.

Having good thoughts about your fellow humans will lead to a life of optimism

Remember that we all struggle with our own problems and obstacles. We all have our spiritual problems that we have to work on. But one thing must be certain for all of us, and that is that we must memorize the good of a human being so that we can lift that person up in the future and especially if that person really wants to do good things for society and humanity.

It is definitely never a trait of a true Muslim to walk around and memorize the evil of a person and then try to break down the person in the future. We should never be those types of individuals, where we memorize the bad of a person who happened to do something bad one day and forget all the good things he has done for you for a thousand days.

This is a serious sign that we have a problem with pessimism, jealousy, racism, anger and hatred in our communities. These spiritual diseases must disappear. Start with yourself before you start with others. Write down these obstacles which you are struggling with and then find a tactic and method to fight these spiritual obstacles. We Muslims should and must work in this way to create a society of peace, tolerance and joy!

Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Holy Progeny (as)

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوۡمٍ حَتّٰى يُغَيِّرُوۡا مَا بِاَنۡفُسِهِمۡ

Verily, God does not change a people’s condition unless they change their inner selves. [13:11]

The seed doesn’t grow outside the soil. The growth of a human being doesn’t begin in another soul. It begins with your own self. When you realize that change begins within your own self, then indeed, God will change the condition of your life.

– Amir Zabidi

Why should we be in a state of change?

A human being of wisdom should always be in a state of change. When I am discussing change and reform, I am discussing the positive aspect of change. A human being can change himself into different directions. It can be a positive direction or a negative direction. A Muslim should always choose the positive direction. A Muslim should carry the seeds of optimism and Husn Adh-Dhan (Thinking positively of God and the people).

When it comes to that type of change, then we as Muslims should embrace that type of change. Every direction which leads to positivity and to the destinations of positivity, is a destination of success and succour.

We should always be in a state of positive change, because God wants us to develop and become better human beings for each and every single day. When we obey the positive orders of God, the whole humanity will benefit. God only encourage us to perform the actions which will lead to a spiritual utopia that will give your heart and the society the sweetness of tranquility and peace.

Why should we try to change our negative perception?

Many cultural Muslims have learned to stick to a view that will only lead to negative consequences. This applies not only to cultural Muslims, but also to prejudiced non-Muslims who only think badly about Arabs and Muslims. We have learned from childhood to never change our perception. Especially from our cultural parents who have fed us with cultural concepts that have blocked our minds from the reality of the true perception me and you should embrace as Muslims.

For example, in our communities they have made it a big taboo to marry divorced woman. The reason for this is, of course, that another man has seen her body and that after her divorce, she went through Mu’tah marriages and Misyar marriages, in order to at least try to find the love she always wanted. As a faithful Muslim, you and I have to live into a woman’s experiences and situations that have made her experience these circumstances. As a Muslim, we need to think more about the direction that will lead to the world of open-mindedness. Of course, this does not only apply to divorced women, but the problem lies in the Arab mentality which values a woman according to her virginity. We have to change our perception. As an Arab, I grew up in this mentality, and I can tell you it was never easy for me to accept a non-virgin woman, but thank God, I was able to change my perception. This is the very essence of being strong enough as a Muslim and crushing your ego to embrace the true Islamic mentality!

Honor culture is also one of the examples found among the mentality in our communities. This is also a view that must be changed. Honor culture is definitely not a part of Islam. Being murdered just because you like the wrong woman or the wrong man who unfortunately belongs to a family of this barbaric culture is definitely not a part of Islam. Dare to stand up and go against the values of your parent if they are based on Jahiliyah, and this is arguably one of the greatest Jihad.

Changing all these disadvantages will undoubtedly provide a positive image of Islam and a positive image of yourself. When you as a Muslim and as a person are ready to change yourself and crush your ego to reach a higher level of consciousness, then your perception of reality will become sharper and you will approach the truth even more.

We can never force anyone to change their perception. The majority will always hold on to what their parents taught them

The majority are so firm in what their parents taught them. Our prophets (as) have spent thousands of years trying to change the perception of the masses, but only a small minority were willing to stand up and follow the message of truth. The same goes for our time. People’s hearts have become harder, and when people’s hearts become harder, they automatically become narrow-minded human beings who only think about their own desires and their own ego.

Changing yourself takes time. It is not easy to take the step. Imagine yourself a 10-year upbringing based on narrow-mindedness, and suddenly a time comes when you want to change a 10-year upbringing that will be difficult to change for many, but if you want the change, you should be willing to take the step to change your perception of the world you live in. The moment you are willing to do it, is the moment that you will change you as a human being. We must change our perception of how we as Muslims view our fellow human beings, our women and the society in which we live in. We must be strong enough to discern the disadvantages of our culture from the true Islamic doctrine.

How will this reform change our generation and the future generation?

This generation we live in right now in the western world is thankfully much more open-minded than the village mentality that our parents grew up in and want us to embrace. There is not much left to hone and shape. The disadvantages are much smaller than they were 60 years ago. We who live in this generation must make sure to erase every single cultural and social disadvantage in order to pave the way for positivity for our future generation. Just imagine what society would have looked like if the majority of Muslims had been ready to place real Islamic values on these cultural and social disadvantages that would make it difficult for the future generation.

It is so tragic that this world has become so selfish and so materialistic that you are not even willing to think about the future of your children. The human being today is willing to crush the earth in order to earn a drop of the worldly pleasure. A world that does not want to come close to God will begin to worship its own desires that will lead us to all these problems and the world will experience obstacles in all worldly aspects whether it comes to the environment, world politics, the social part, the economic structure and the cultural world.

When you as a human being are willing to change yourself, you will automatically change the world you live in. Your spiritual growth that you receive from God will help you become a person of positive benefits for humanity. The world needs people who have undergone social and spiritual change. It is tragic to choose people who are stubborn and obnoxious and prioritize them above those who are willing to come up with positive changes that will change the perception of how we as human beings view life. We all make mistakes and we must be willing to understand this. Once we realize that all of us aren’t flawless, then we will understand that we are facing the beginning of a change that will lead to beautiful destinations.

Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (saw) and his Holy Progeny (as)
